For the month of October, Mugen is featuring the Taste of the Caribbean afternoon tea. Across more than 7000 islands, West Indian cuisine was largely influenced by slaves from Africa, colonial Europeans, indentured workers from India & Asia and migrants from the Middle East, North & South America. This cuisine was further accentuated by pre-existing Taino Indian and Afro-Caribbean cooking techniques. This limited engagement afternoon tea will showcase just a few of these dishes and techniques.
This exquisite affair begins with welcoming each guest with a glass of Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Rosé or Barbados Rum Punch and Elite Reserve Golden Oscietra Caviar Liver Pate to settle in, as each will partake in selecting their unique, personal teapot for the afternoon.
An array of black, green, herbal, rooibos, oolong, and white teas will be available from our partner, TEALEAVES, which includes a selection of rare blends. Discover something new, as we introduce the Manoa Chocolate tea from our partner, Manoa Chocolate, and the 100% Kona Cascara Tea from our partner, Tradition Coffee Roasters.

The Japanese term “Mottainai” can be translated as “What a waste”, it encourages using the output from one process into the input of another. In this case the shells of the roasted cacao beans are steeped in hot water creating a chocolatey aromatic “Tea” This tea contains Theobromine which has a similar molecular structure to caffeine. Theobromine is known for lifting your mood, providing focus and clarity.
TRADITION COFFEE ROASTERS | 100% KONA CASCARA TEA
This intense sweetness of dried cherries combined with hibiscus aromatics are created from the fruit known as a coffee cherry. Coffee “beans” comes from a delicious, sweet fruit about the size of a penny. The fruit and skin are dried on open air beds to create this antioxidant rich blend. Cascara consumption is believed to predate roasted coffee, so enjoy this very traditional tea! Cascara Tea contains approximately 25mg of caffeine much like a green tea.
